explains that many people can save 25 to 35% on monthly
utility costs by doing something as simple as proper
insulation. Many customers can experience a payback
on their investment within five to six months.
For
Aaron Valentine, what may have started out as an aspiration
to wear a suit to the office developed into a lucrative
career in sales, paving the way to ownership of his
own energy efficiency company.
“I had a good, modest upbringing with great
family values,” said Aaron of his farming background
in rural Fulton County. “When I was young, I
told my parents I wanted to wear a suit to work when
I grew up, and when I finally had the opportunity
to wear suits often, I decided I didn’t really
want to wear them after all.”
While he may not be as enthusiastic about suits these
days, it has not stopped Aaron from finding success
in his career. After graduating from Delta High School,
Aaron attended the University of Toledo and graduated
with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Once Aaron immersed himself in sales and business
at Coca Cola, he decided to stick with a sales career
and eventually took a position in medical sales—a
booming industry at the time.
“It was during the pharmaceutical industry explosion
when biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies were
hiring people to promote directly to the physicians,”
explained Aaron. “I learned how to get through
to people in the office, from the front staff to the
doctors. You have to be very determined, have thick
skin, and focus on relationships. That’s how
you earn the opportunity to sell products.”
Aaron’s ability to build relationships and bring
in the sale got him noticed by other companies. After
Aaron spent five years with a division of Abbot Laboratories,
a small start-up company recruited him. With Aaron's
help, the small company grew and the product took
off, becoming very profitable.
“Eventually, there was an offer for the company,
and it sold in February 2007,” said Aaron. “I
took the money from my severance package to start
EnerSol, and we started on June 18, 2007.”
“The industry for energy efficient companies
and green buildings is fragmented, and you have to
go to different companies to find the products and
services you need,” explained Aaron. “But,
with EnerSol, we take care of everything for you?a
'one-stop shop.' We look at your insulation in your
attic, crawl space and basement to see if there are
adequate amounts and if there was proper installation
of the current material. We also look to see if the
building is properly sealed from outside air. We then
look at all the mechanicals to include the furnace,
air conditioner, duct work, and hot water tank. Careful
inspections are needed in order to properly recommend
what is needed for the structure. Once we make that
determination, we move to putting together a quotation
package and finally installing what is needed to make
the building as energy efficient as possible.”
Aaron explains that many people can save 25 to 35%
on monthly utility costs by doing something as simple
as proper insulation. Many customers can experience
a payback on their investment within five to six months.
Currently employing 10 professionals, EnerSol provides
free quotes on all services after spending around
an hour auditing a building or home.
“Energy efficiency and green building is better
science at home, and in the end it puts more money
in your pocket and frees up dependence on foreign
oil,” said Aaron. “It’s not just
a short-term trend. It is better building science.”
