Happy Rose Buffet
By Justin Stewart
According to Kaixing Yang, what he appreciates most about doing business in the United States is that "Americans have more freedom, more chances and more opportunity."

"We respect all educators and teachers. So we offer them 10% off every day. Students, with ID, also get 10% off."

Kaixing Yang and Aimin Yang The Happy Rose Buffet is located at 5221 Monroe Street in Toledo. The restaurant is owned by Kaixing Yang, and managed by Aimin Yang, who also translates for Kaixing, when needed. Both Kaixing and Aimin are from China. While in China, Kaixing started a construction business when he was 29 years old. In 1993, after 10 years of construction work, Kaixing went into China’s seafood and sushi business. A year later, he sold the business and moved to the United States, around 1994.

For Kaixing, coming to America opened many new horizons. “Americans have more freedom, more chances and more opportunity." At first, he worked in a textile factory before taking over his younger brother’s Chinese restaurant. The Happy Rose Buffet originally opened in 2005 under Kaixing’s brother, but after awhile, Kaixing took over the operation.

Interestingly enough, there are two Happy Buffets in the Toledo area. When asked about a second location sharing the same name, Kaixing explains, "There are two locations, but different owners."

Kaixing’s Happy Rose Buffet is a traditional Chinese food restaurant with a large variety of traditional Chinese cuisine. When asked what made the Happy Rose Buffet different from most other Chinese food restaurants, manager Aimin Yang explained, "First, we would like to mention that the size of this restaurant is bigger, has more variety, and the foods’ quality we think is higher quality than others. Particularly, we can make traditional Chinese food such as rice shaomai and shrimp Chinese rice cakes." Aimin eagerly mentions that people really seem to like the food that the Happy Rose Buffet offers.

Happy Rose Buffet Although Kaixing and Aimin have been in the United States for a few years, they still keep tabs on what is happening in their homeland. When asked how business in China right now compares to business in the United States, Aimin Yang said, "Right now I think China has more freedom, much better right now also." Although he agrees that there are still more freedoms for businesses and individuals in the United States, China is definitely catching up.

The Happy Rose Buffet is open from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday, and between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant also has a special occasion room with lots of natural light and big, wide open spaces that can be rented out for birthday, anniversary, baby showers or business gatherings up to 120 people.

Kaixing and Aimin offer special 10% off discounts for students and teachers. A great admirer of teachers, Aimin refers to them as “the engineers of human minds.” Teachers and students are not the only people who are benefiting from special discounts at the Happy Rose Buffet, as the restaurant also offers party discounts for groups. "Parties of 10 or more get 10 % off. For birthday parties of 8 or more, we offer free birthday cake."

Voted as one of 2007’s top 100 buffets in the Asian Restaurant news, Kaixing and Aimin take great care each day to make sure their buffet and individual sushi bar meet the standards of taste and selection their customers have come to know and enjoy.
