Why
Buy in The Toledo Market?
By Arlene Gegig &
Judy Gorun
We have all heard the old real estate saying,
“location, location, location.”
Well, the Toledo area is a fabulous location
in which to live for so many reasons.
Our metro Toledo area is easily accessible
with major transportation hubs connecting
us to major metropolitan areas. We have
the turnpike, I75, the airport, Amtrak,
and a shipping port of significant importance,
not only for lake transport but for international
commerce as well.
Our city and the surrounding area are wonderful
places to rear families. Our taxes, while
we tend to complain, are not as outrageous
as are those in many other areas, and housing
has been more affordable here than in other
areas our size. As residents, we tend to
take these advantages for granted.
The Toledo area is a diverse melting pot,
with lots of rich history in our area. Years
ago, industry brought many immigrants to
this area, and many ethnic traditions are
rooted deeply in the Toledo area. During
the year, we see the Birmingham Festival,
the Polish Festival, the Greek Festival
and the German Festival.
We have some of the best opportunities for
education. In addition to many great public
school systems, we have private, parochial
and charter schools. The University of Toledo
is highly recognized, and, since joining
the medical community, there is more opportunity
than ever for students. Owens College is
a valuable asset to the Toledo area and
offers many programs that are affordable
and favorably located within easy driving
distance. Lourdes College, a private school,
offers higher education on a relatively
small campus in a serene atmosphere.
No matter where you live in this area, there
is a Metropark close by. Each park has its
own particular identity, but all offer similar
conveniences. You can walk, bike, run or
just enjoy nature. There are even activities
such as fishing and horseback riding available
in some of the parks.
If music is your thing, we have it! The
Toledo Symphony and the Toledo Opera have
been institutions here for years. You can
enjoy symphony performances at the Peristyle,
the Stranahan and also at the Toledo Zoo
in the summer, where the public can enjoy
hearing the symphony perform.
We have many opportunities to enjoy the
arts. We are proud to boast that the Toledo
Ballet has been performing the Nutcracker
for 67 years! Recently, “Live, Work,
Create Toledo” was introduced to our
community. This project will bring artists
into a location where they will be able
to live, create their art and share it with
visitors within an “artist community.”
This project, still in its infancy, is geared
toward being a major success.
Most of us are aware that Toledo is the
home of actor Jamie Farr, whose television
program Mash made Tony Packo’s Restaurant
famous. He also promoted the Mud Hens, which
have a tremendous facility downtown enjoyed
by people from near and far. Jamie Farr
also remains active in promoting the popular
LPGA tour here in Toledo each year. In addition,
ground has been broken for a new multi-use
indoor arena downtown.
Our Toledo Art Museum is known as one of
the country’s finest! It is recognized
around the world for acquisitions that have
been made for the wonderful exhibits that
have been here over the years. Some of the
collections have never been seen in a city
the size of Toledo! The new glass pavilion
has added even more acclaim to our already
fabulous museum.
While discussing the country’s finest,
we cannot omit the Toledo Zoo! Our zoo has
improved and expanded over the years to
make it one of the best and most enviable
to other cities similar in size. The continued
work on already excellent exhibits is no
small accomplishment. Just remember the
three new polar bears born at our zoo in
the past year, which brought our city great
acclaim. Baby Louie, while not a baby anymore,
along with numerous other notable exhibitions,
have brought thousands of visitors to our
area every year.
Our health care facilities are some of the
nation’s finest. We have had major
expansions in the area hospitals with additions
in specialized care such as heart and cancer.
Patients come from surrounding counties
for care in burn units and neonatal units.
The Ronald McDonald House is a huge asset
to our community.
With all of the positive happenings and
wonderful facilities we have available in
our area, we must share with the world the
privilege that we have in calling the metro
Toledo area our home. Tell everyone you
know that Toledo is a great place to live–location,
location, location. Toledo is THE location
where the past and present are times of
pride, and the future is bright and full
of promise.
